About the Role
With our Devices Team scaling rapidly and new product development accelerating, we’re looking for a Lead Engineer - Mechanical to provide technical leadership across complex hardware projects.
You’ll act as the technical lead for the mechanical engineers, guiding the design, prototyping, testing, and delivery of mechanical solutions spanning plastics, metals, and complex assemblies. You’ll inspire and mentor your team, demonstrating best practice, fostering collaboration, and helping engineers grow their skills and confidence. Working closely with electronics, firmware, toolmakers, manufacturing, NPI, and procurement teams, you’ll take products from concept through to manufacturing-ready release, while enabling sustainable, high-quality delivery.
In this role, you will:
Provide technical direction and guide critical mechanical design decisions
Lead major design reviews and influence engineering methodologies
Ensure designs are robust, manufacturable, cost-effective, and compliant with international standards
Demonstrate strong leadership and mentorship, coaching engineers to achieve individual and team goals
Support Learning First Product Development (LFPD) and continuous improvement
About You
You thrive in complex design environments and enjoy leading others to deliver high-quality outcomes. You bring strong leadership presence, encouraging collaboration, accountability, and innovation within your team. You also bring strong engineering fundamentals, sound judgment, and a collaborative mindset to fast-moving development programmes.
What you’ll need:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar)
8+ years’ experience in mechanical design, ideally in an R&D environment
Strong proficiency with 3D CAD tools and design for manufacture
Proven ability to diagnose issues and drive robust design solutions
Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to motivate and coach a team
Clear communication skills and confidence influencing across disciplines
Desirable: experience mentoring engineers, exposure to plastics/tooling, metal components, or high-volume manufacturing
