Protect what matters most
At Gallagher, our purpose is to protect what matters most. From securing some of the world's most critical infrastructure to supporting innovative technology solutions used in more than 160 countries, we're a proudly New Zealand-founded technology company making a global impact.
We're now looking for a Senior Network Engineer to join our Hamilton-based Digital Services team.
The Opportunity
This is not a role for someone who simply keeps the lights on.
We're looking for a senior engineer who can see the bigger picture - someone who understands how network architecture, cloud infrastructure and operational decisions influence business outcomes.
You'll play a key role in designing, implementing and evolving Gallagher's network environment across cloud and on-premise infrastructure, while acting as a senior technical leader within the team. You'll be a trusted escalation point, a mentor to less experienced engineers, and a key contributor to projects that support the future direction of our technology landscape.
Unlike many network engineering roles, the majority of your time (80-90%) will be spent delivering projects rather than supporting BAU operations. You'll have the opportunity to influence architecture, drive continuous improvement and help shape how we operate as a global technology business.
Who we’re looking for
We're seeking a proven senior professional with the technical depth, commercial awareness and leadership capability to operate confidently at this level.
You'll likely bring:
A minimum of 7 years' experience in Network Engineering or related infrastructure roles
Strong experience across enterprise networking, cloud networking and infrastructure environments
Deep knowledge of Azure, AWS and modern network technologies
Experience designing and delivering complex network solutions rather than purely supporting them
The ability to translate technical decisions into business impact
Strong critical thinking and attention to detail
Experience mentoring, coaching or providing technical leadership to other engineers
While we're open to candidates from a range of backgrounds, engineers who have worked within ISP, MSP or service provider environments often bring the broad technical perspective, commercial acumen and architectural mindset we're looking for.
More than technical expertise
Technical capability is essential, but success in this role will come from your ability to understand the wider business context.
You'll be someone who asks "why" before "how", considers risk and commercial impact when making decisions, and can confidently engage with stakeholders across the organisation.
If you're known for your sound judgement, attention to detail and ability to see how technology fits together to support business outcomes, we'd love to hear from you.
Hamilton by design
This role is based in Hamilton and requires regular in-office presence.
As a highly collaborative and commercially focused business, we believe the best outcomes come from working closely together. This role partners with a wide range of stakeholders and plays an important part in team leadership, knowledge sharing and decision-making, making an on-site presence an essential part of the role.
The environment you'll be joining
This is a role for someone who wants more than just a queue of tickets and another project to deliver.
You'll join a team led by a manager with a clear vision for the future, where senior engineers are encouraged to challenge thinking, contribute ideas and influence technical direction. If you enjoy working with smart people, solving meaningful problems and having a genuine voice in how things are done, you'll feel right at home here.
We also offer:
Free onsite parking and café facilities – Thursday roasts, daily hot breakfasts
Life & Disability Insurance
Staff discounts and wellbeing initiatives
Career development opportunities across a global organisation
