The Opportunity
Kickstart your career today! Our paid internship programme runs from November 2025 to February 2026 (10 weeks / 400 hours), offering you a unique opportunity to jumpstart your professional journey. You’ll gain invaluable mentorship from industry experts and have opportunities to connect informally with colleagues, helping you build lasting relationships. In our engaging, hands-on environment, you won’t just observe - you’ll actively contribute! This is your chance to learn, innovate, and grow with a company that’s shaping the future of security and animal management technology worldwide.
We are looking for 15 students to take part in this year’s internship programme, with one student assigned to each of the following exciting projects:
- Power Analysis: Explore power analysis strategies for security systems, prototype a power sensor, and analyse signal data. Key Skills & Interests - Software Engineer or Computer Science Student with an interest in basic electronics, experimenting with AI and signal processing.
- Enhanced Threat Identification (OWASP Threat Dragon Enhancements): Improve open-source threat modelling by implementing new features in collaboration with our cybersecurity team. Key Skills & Interests - vue.js, open-source development, threat modelling experience.
- Tamper Detection: Research and prototype physical tamper detection methods for security devices, assessing effectiveness and trade-offs. Key Skills & Interests -Electronic/Mechanical/Mechatronics student with an interest in designing and building prototypes and testing options.
- AI Access Request Abstraction: Investigate and prototype a natural language AI agent to streamline access request workflows using automation. Key Skills & Interests - Studying towards or with a computer science qualification, ideally with research or evidence of experimenting with AI. Has good business acumen to attend and participate in interviews.
- Low Frequency, short range radio-frequency identification hardware/software design: Evaluate alternative approaches for low frequency, short range RFID readers. Key Skills & Interests - C/C++, assembly, embedded development and electronics.
- End-to-End Hardware Automation: Contribute to designing and developing a platform that will automatically test the end-to-end performance of our hardware products, improving the quality of each release. Key Skills & Interests - Basic knowledge of Raspberry Pi and GPIO programming, familiarity with Python or Bash scripting. Interest in hardware testing and automation along with some understanding of version control and deployment workflows.
- Bluetooth from Mobile App: Research and prototype ways to enhance Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) reliability in background mode. Key Skills & Interests - iOS mobile app development, BLE low energy mobile scanning experience (non-paired implementation).
- Developer Experience & Productivity Dashboard: Design and build a dashboard to visualise key developer productivity metrics and uncover improvement opportunities. Key Skills & Interests - C#, observability & dashboards, high agency.
- Enablement of Technology Partners through automation: Build secure workflows to automate the generation and provisioning of license tokens so that Integration Partners can utilise Command Centre’s REST API. Key Skills & Interests - C#, passion for automating processes and manual tasks using software.
- UWB Investigation: Investigate applications and integration of Ultra-Wideband technology in security systems. Key Skills & Interests - C/C++, Python, embedded development and basic electronics.
- Handheld RFID Reader – Range and Performance Improvements: Test alternative antenna designs and circuit configurations to improve range, speed, and power efficiency. Key Skills & Interests - Electronics/Electrical student, electronic circuit design, analogue circuit and RF interest.
- MPPT Regulation for Integrated Solar Energizers: Evaluate maximum power point tracking options to improve solar energy efficiency without increasing product size. Key Skills & Interests - Electronics/Electrical student, electronic circuit design, analogue circuit & solar energy interest.
- New Technologies for Portable Fence Automation: Research, prototype, and test novel technologies to automate electric fencing for mid-scale farming systems. Key Skills & Interests - A mechatronics student with an interest in motor control and clever mechanisms.
- Automation Conversion of Ruby to Mocha Tests: Implement automated solutions to convert legacy Ruby-based API tests into the modern Mocha framework. Key Skills & Interests - Computer Science/IT Technology student, Interests/Skills in API automation, Mocha framework.
- Modernising Internal Release Tools: Upgrade internal release tools with secure authentication and high-impact features to improve software delivery efficiency. Key Skills & Interests - Software Developer student, Web skills, interest working with Angular + Typescript.

Eligibility Criteria
To apply, you must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the internship programme. We encourage you to check your eligibility carefully before applying to ensure a smooth process:
- Be currently studying at a New Zealand tertiary institution, or have graduated within the past 12 months, with an NZQA Level 6 or higher qualification in science, technology, or engineering
- Be legally allowed to work in New Zealand during the internship
- Not have completed more than two previous internships with Gallagher or held long-term or full-time employment with Gallagher outside of an internship.
